Frankenstein (2025)

I have very mixed feelings about this movie because I wanted to like it so much more than I did, however, I never read the book so idk how true it stays to the actual story. I heard there are some things that are pretty different, but some of the parts I thought were dumb were actual events in the book. Let's start with what I liked about the movie. They had a pretty star-studded cast and I freaking love Mia Goth. I thought the cinematography was whimsical and had a dark undertone which matched the overall energy of the tale. The special effects were pretty good (the make up too), but ugh, the creature was not supposed to be as "attractive" as he was for being a clump of random body parts. I guess they are mostly body parts of military dudes, but still, I am so tired of it. Why does the monster have abs?? I also thought the story telling was a bit weak and idk if it was because story telling back then seemed simpler? Like it felt like a lot of the things were just too convenient or straight forward. It was also a bit too dramatic for a modern interpretation and what I mean by that is that the monster is like saying the most poetic shit then screaming, but idk I just expected to be a bit more impactful without being in your face. I did not like part 2...what do you mean the creature just happen to come across a cozy ass house in the middle of the forest and of course he is taken in. I wanted him to find himself in the forest as like a wilderness creature not like some pet adopted from humans. I mean yeah that is where he learns humanity, but couldn't Mia Goth visit him in the forest or something?? I do like the end of the movie (sort of) because it did show how humanity is taught and not a natural trait. We learn who the REAL monster is...dumb Victor. God he was such an ass to him! I didn't like how he sort of just died of exhaustion in the end. Like damn dude, you were such a dick that you tired yourself out and then just bit dust. He was just a piece of trash from the beginning swooping in on Mia like that too! Dude, scientists have no morals...lol (I say that as a STEM girlie). The stupidest thing in this movie is definitely the fact that Victor pretty much burned down his lab at the first sign of aggression from the creature lolllll what did you expect??

IMDb rating: 7.4 out of 10 stars

My rating: 6.8 out of 10 stars (not horrible, but def not amazing)
