Prom Night (1980)
This movie is...interesting and nothing less than what you would expect from an 80's horror flick. It's absurd yet somehow pretty enjoyable in many parts. I really don't like when they use the same actor for 2 movies in the same genre during the same time. Like JLC is our Halloween queen and it's like Patrick Wilson being in The Conjuring series and Insidious. Pick a lane! That is my gripe about it at least. Ok, the plot of this movie is kind of lame, but works a little. The whole movie is about a group of teens that are getting terrorized by someone who seems to be avenging Robin's death. Robin is the little girl in the beginning of the film who fell to her death because the group was playing some game and made her fall back into the window. The kids got scared and didn't tell anyone what happened so the town suspected that it was a murder. It's so funny seeing Leslie Nielsen in a serious role lolllll but he is not only the dad of two of the kids in the group, but also the principal of the school. Things start picking up as prom night approaches. We have a couple of people the movie is alluding to being suspects of Robin's death, but it looks so cheesy that you are like there is no way these two dudes did it. One of the girls who is clearly very jealous of JLC wants to hijack prom night so that her and her bf (?) get crowned. In doing this though, the person out for Robin's revenge mistakes the guy for one of the original kids of the group and slices his head off (pretty clean!) The girl goes too as well as I think 1 or 2 more characters. The killer is wearing a mask, so we don't know the identity, but isn't it kind of funny that Alex is nowhere in sight when these things happen? It turns out that Alex was avenging Robin since she was his and JLC's sister. Awwwww what a good brother, but dude, go to therapy! Idk this movie is exactly what it is. No more, no less. Just a fun little horror movie with a ridiculously long disco dance scene that was pretty enjoyable.
Prime rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars (people must really like JLC because the movie itself was not great lol)
My rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars. As I said it was enjoyable for what it was but def was not some monumental horror movie.
