Scare Package
I feel like I have started this movie like 3 damn times and idk why I never watched it all the way through. I finally told myself to sit down and watch the Last Drive In special of this show and I think that was the way to do it. I appreciated that this movie had seven different directors for each of the seven short films, but MAN was this film meta. I just did a review on Scream 3 (yet another comedy meta horror flick) and there are some parallels for sure. Look at the movie poster for this film even! It's a tape of a tape of a tape...at some point there was just so much meta layering it got a little confusing. It was fun that these short films had little "hats off" moments to a lot of other horror films (Friday the 13th, Toxic Avenger, Halloween...etc.) but I am not going to lie, some of these short films were a bit lame. The one that immediately comes to mind is the one where the group of girls all take a lick from a stolen skull shaped lollipop and then their faces turn into skulls (while they were getting stalked by some psycho) then they invite the psycho in and kill him?? The werewolf, cult, macho man meeting, silver bullet, random meeting event was also kind of a confusing film as well. It was cool to watch this a Bob Briggs special because not only was Joe Bob in the movie himself, but he also rated each one of the short films right after they were done being played. I think they tried to put a little toooo much meta/comedy in the movie, but hey! I still had a good time watching it. It was sort of like a B-rated Scary Movie or maybe more independent or something.
Shudder rating: 4 out of 5 skulls
My rating: 3 out of 5 skulls (sorry! My brain couldn't handle all the meta and comedy....ahhhhhhhh)
