The Kindred
Uh wtf was this movie? I liked it (except that the main dude is a freaking cheater) and I'm honestly surprised that this movie isn't talked about more. So many cool practical effects were applied for this movie and pretty impressive being that this movie was made in the 80s. The story is centered around a molecular scientist's son who is tasked by her to get rid of everything in her home. Apparently, she has been doing experiments and even mentions that he has a sibling named Anthony...mysterious. We also have a fellow collogue (sp?) of her that wants her research and actually causes the mother to have a heart attack and die in the hospital. The rest of the movie is pretty much the son, his wife, and a bunch of eager grad students going through the mom's house and her crazy experiments. There is one girl in particular who says to be a huge fan of the mom's work, and we find out later that she was spliced with the same material as we find Anthony to possess later on. Ok, so who is this Anthony person? Well, Anthony is part of the mom's son's DNA spliced in hopes of creating a semi aquatic human being. However, her experiments have failed and have created a mutant (who she has named Anthony) and some smaller versions who were also experiments. The story from here is pretty much Anthony killing and causing commotion in the house and then we find out that Amanda (the supposed big fan of the mother) actually is in cahoots with the mom's former collogue (I really don't think that is how you spell that word). Well, maybe I should say she is more blackmailed. She is tasked to get the Anthony specimen or else she will suffer the same fate. The whole crew watches her transform into a fish lady and then die right in front of everyone. They finally are able to kill Anthony (after he creates a bunch of little, tiny Anthonys??) via electrical blow up and Anthony takes Dr. Lloyd (ok, now I am remembering his name) down into the weird sewer well down with him. The house eventually catches fire after one of the students lights a cigarette to some gun powder and we see alllll the little Anthonys catch fire. The end!
Shudder rating: 4 out of 5 skulls (not surprised)
My rating: 3.7 out of 5 skulls (loved the practical effects and parts of the story line, but kind of slow moving in some parts. Plus, the main character is a freaking cheater!)
