Weapons
I'm so glad I rewatched this movie (this review is fresh off the press!). I watched with some friends the first time and I always get distracted when I watch something with a group of people. I love this movie! I thought it was a unique plot for being a witch story. They did a great job with making Gladys (is that how you spell her name?) captivating yet so frail and creepy. She's the kind of lady who sometimes seems like she would be a sweet grandmother until she takes someone's hair, wraps it around a twig, smears her blood all over it and then breaks it in half...I also like that this movie was broken down by point of view. It explains each part of the story through a different perspective (it helped break down the two-hour movie as well). They did a really good job with shock factor. Not a lot of jump scares but more omfg what is happening moments. I feel like I'm always raving about movie endings but, for real, this one is one of my favorites. They suchhh a good job at making kids even scarier than they really are. They did not skip out on the graphic nature of how Gladys (sp?) was literally ripped apart by all these kids that she kept as energy sources/weapons. Like the title! Oof, I felt so bad for the little kid, Alex though. What a good little actor. Could you imagine your parents just turning into lifeless energy sources for this lady who looks like the crypt keeper (without her wig and makeup of course). I will say the scene with Gladys hiding in the basement as Archer looks for his kid then her jumping out was definitely the best jump scare in the movie in my opinion. As I said this movie did a great job at being super unsettling. I want to conjure up something about what I didn't like about the movie, however, I am having a difficult time. I want to say the length of the movie, but there was a lot of explaining to do/backstory so I might be justifying a two-hour movie for the first time in my life.
IMDb rating: 7.4 out of 10 (I was expecting at least an 8!)
My rating: 9.5 out of 10 (only because I could have used more jump scares! Honestly, one of the best horror movies that has come out lately)
