Fright Night (1985)
This movie was pretty funny and is a classic! I love that the vampire's name is Jerry lollll. This movie has a decent amount of good special effects for being pretty cheesy in some parts (it's an 80s movie!) We basically have this vampire who moves next door to this sort of dorky kid. He notices some weiiiiird things that happen next door like body dumping, sexy times with fangs and long nails, and a coffin appearing. The most concerning this to this dude is the bags looking like they contain a body. He investigates the house with some police officers and, of course, they don't find anything during their visit. Jerry and his partner in crime want payback by trying to eliminate this high school kid. Vampires cannot enter homes they are not invited to for some reason, so the kid's mom invites him in not knowing he is a fricken vampire. Now, Jerry can just waltz right in (which he does) to legit kill this kid lolll. This is when he, his gf, and his friend to pull out the big guns...get the host of the show Fright Night - Peter Vincent! He is pretty skeptical until he goes to Jerry's house and see he doesn't have a reflection. The friend plays cry wolf in the ally then actually gets bitten. His form is kind of strange...he had fangs and is burned by a cross, but then his form was a wolf?? Maybe I need to research some vamp lore. The wildest part of this movie is Jerry pursuing the high school gf. I understand that she is like a reincarnation of his previous love (or so he thinks?) Either way, it's creepy. I guess his logic is that she is like this reincarnation of his old love and she would be with him once he turns her? I wish they went over that a bit more. This poor dude...his best friend and gf were both turned by Jerry. Good news is that she is turned back when Jerry explodes into green flames due to sunlight beaming through the basement. Also, Jerry's partner (or like his body guard?) gets stabbed through the heart and he dissolves into like this green goop...so not a vampire but def another kind of creature. I really liked this movie, and I think it is a super cozy horror flick to put on!
Shudder rating: 5 out of 5 skulls!
My rating: 4.1 out of 5 skulls...because I can
