The Black Phone
I thought this movie was just too convenient and not convincing enough. The bad guy's name is "The Grabber"? This movie is cheesy too?? This movie had more potential and it sucks that this movie did so little with the concept. I sort of like the idea of the previous child victims communicating to Finny, but again, not as chilling as it could have been! I really hate how the sister just happppens to get these visions and dreams, so she is able to locate him (sort of) at the very end. That was weird too when the abusive dad was like "Your mother had it toooo". That should just been a separate story. They are doing too many things and did a poor job. Why did they make the grabber have such a meek personality? Like I understand the creepiness of someone just being detached and not acting completely crazy, but I expected him to be a littttle bit more unhinged. I did like the part where he was just waiting upstairs with a belt but that was about it lollll. I thought the kids were pretty cheesy too hahaha idk something about them was like they were produced by AI or something. Like asking copilot to make a group of children with diverse backgrounds and have them play stereotypical groups in school. Idk why I am so harsh on this movie. Maybe because I expected a lot more from it because it sounded super creepy when I first heard about it. I remember watching it the first time (yes, I rewatched it to remember what happened so I could review it) and I was like "that was it?" With all that being said, I actually am a little excited to watch Black Phone 2 because I think they heard enough complaints and they mayyyyybe ramped up the sequel a bit. Honestly, I don't because I've only seen the preview a couple times at the movies a while back.
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 6.9 out of 10 stars (that still seems a bit high)
My rating: 5.0 out of 10 stars (I reallllllly wanted to like it and I took it personally when the movie was not very good so extra points off).
