I freaking love this movie. I'm not kidding, this has to be among my top 5 favorite horror movies (and it is a comedy horror??) My friends would be shocked because I am not a huge fan of comedy, but something about the humor in this movie mixed with the absurd attack moves of the pants had me really liking this movie. Where do I even start with this one. This movie is not just about one pair of shape shifter pants but an army of them. The movie starts with showing a cotton field with a little girl doing child labor to source the cotton supply for the clothing company called CCC or Canadian Cotton Clotheirs. This clothing store is highly priced and claims to get their cotton from ethical sources only (so...no child labor in other countries). Our protagonist is a new employee who is a fairly young woman eager to start her employment there. Many of the staff are just plain mean to her or are so corporate you wish that they were just mean to her lol. Anyways, one pair of pants starts the violence by cinching off a woman's waste to death (then absorbing her blood). This goes on with other employees of the workplace as they slowly start disappearing during a company meeting. My favorite attack from these pants is jumping onto someone and using the zipper's teeth as actual teeth to mutilate its victims. Idk I think I just like the creativity of some of these killer moves. Something I had to look up because I was a little unsure was why the pants needed 4 sacrifices. The 'S' logo on the back started getting filled in with red for each of the people killed. I guess that could be symbolized as a ritual that would have been done for Keerat since she didn't have a proper burial. She was killed by the cotton...blade spinner contraption?...idk what it is called while picking cotton for CCC. I think there are a lot of themes of karma in this movie since I think the movie was alluding to her getting bad karma for what looked like stealing some of the cotton (or maybe she was just putting it in her bag??). Then the karma carried forth to CCC for their unethical sourcing (while claiming they do the exact opposite). More and more of these shape shifter pants come to life and they are thirsty for blood. We only know of Keerat's story because one of the employees was able to speak to her in her language. The main protagonist of the story is determined to help the spirit of Keerat and end her killing spree. Since the cotton was not only used for one pair of pants but for multiple pairs they come to life as well. The store is basically filled with these murderous pants (that sometimes dance hahaha) right before the store is to open for the launching of the new designer jeans. The customers are met with a surprise attack while the main protagonist is knocked down and succumbs to a fatal headwound trying to keep the customers out (and safe). I was really expecting her to be the final girl, but the final girl was Shruti who was able to speak to Keerat. I love the message of this movie along with the special effects and creativity. Who doesn't love a movie about killer pants?? This was the first horror movie I watched on my branch new TV!
Shudder rating: 4 out of 5 skulls
